One of the finest poets with great knowledge in literary Dr G S Shivarudrappa has gone to the memory now from his departure on Monday afternoon after a brief illness.

The third Rashtrakavi of Karnataka Dr GSS (earlier two were Govinda Pai and Kuvempu) aged 87 years final rites will take place on Thursday.

The doyen writer leaves behind two wives, children and grandchildren. One of the grandsons is KM Chaitanya talented director of Kannada cinema.

Dr GSS was also connected to Kannada cinema lending his poems. His latest poem used was for ‘Myna’ – Kanada Kadalige…Hambalisuthide Mana….sung by Dr C Ashwath. This also went in to controversy for using without permission from Lahari Recording Company.

Songs like Vedanthi Helidenu….Ede Tumbi Hadidenu were used for films with a few others. Dr PBS sung the songs like Ellide Brindavana Toro….Vishala pathadalli….in Padmacharan music direction.

Lahari that has the maximum of rights of Rashtrakavi GSS poems is giving a ‘Shraddanjali’ very soon and bringing out all the songs – most of them are composed by Dr C Ashwath.

GSS body is now kept at KMC Hospital and arrival of his son from England is taking some time. GSS lived in Banashankeri and Padmanabhanagar residence.

He was a recipient of the Central Sahitya Akademi award, Karnataka Sahitya Academy award, besides others including the Soviet Land Nehru award. He has published 13 collections of poems and several prose and research works, besides travelogues.
